February 18th & 19th — 18 agus 19 Feabhra

Dingle Peninsula – West Kerry – Ireland — Corca Dhuibhne – Éire

Discover Ireland Website http://www.discoverireland.ie

The Dingle Peninsula is located in Europe’s most westerly point in West Kerry, Ireland on the magnificent south-west coast. Is é Corca Dhuibhne i gCo. Chiarraí an leithinis is faide siar in Éirinn.

This natural paradise, a Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking) area by heritage, is lauded the world over for its immense landscapes and breathtaking scenery. Is í an Ghaeilge teanga cuid mhaith den phobal áitiúil agus beidh fonn orainn í a labhairt leat.

From mountainous terrains, to exquisite valleys, framed by vast coastal expanses with the Atlantic ocean lapping at its feet, the Dingle Peninsula (or Corca Dhuibhne as it is know ‘as Gaeilge’) was once described by National Geographic as ‘the most beautiful place on Earth’.

It’s a deserved title indeed and as a consequence it is one of the premier walking destinations in the world.

This shall present walking enthusiasts of all ages and levels the opportunity to experience this geological jewel first hand for themselves.

Dingle is known the world over for many reasons.

David Lean’s Oscar winning masterpiece Ryan’s Daughter was filmed here – just one of many big screen productions which has featured this spectacular peninsula (Far and Away, starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman being another).

One of its most famous residents is Fungie the Dolphin who celebrates his 27th year in Dingle Harbour this year.

Music series Other Voices is filmed in Dingle every December (this has attracted the likes of Amy Winehouse, The National, Glen Hansard, Jarvis Cocker and Snow Patrol to name but a few).

Dingle’s streets are home to wonderful pubs and restaurants and it is one of Europe’s top holiday destinations.

However its natural beauty is its greatest asset and the 2012 Dingle Walking Festival aims to showcase this beauty in all its magnificent splendour.
