Let’s Get Kerry Walking Continues to Make Positive Strides!
The Let’s Get Kerry Walking campaign continues to grow from strength to strength. The second in a series of walks will take place Saturday 14th April previously advertised for Sunday March 25th. The walk will commence from outside the front of Muckross House at 11am, with pre registration from 10am onwards.
KRSP CoOrdinator Córa Carrigg stated “As our last walk in January was such a success and accounting for both the logistical and safety reasons with respect to parking within Killarney National Park, it is best to reschedule to a Saturday morning when the parking facilities are quieter”.
This scheduled walk will provide participants with the option of taking part in two additional routes; an easy 5km or moderate 10km walk, which are different to the routes walked in January. In addition there will be a designated 5km walk for buggies and strollers only.
All walks will be led by experienced walk leaders and there will be opportunities to explore new surroundings within Killarney National Park, one of the finest walking locations in the country.
The Let’s Get Kerry Walking campaign was launched earlier in January by Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership Cathaoirleach Mr Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh. The walking event was an overwhelming success which saw over 1000 participants of all ages and abilities in attendance.
During February the campaign through the support of the HSE Health Promotion Department as member of the working group, delivered the Irish Heart Foundation Community Walking Leaders training to 20 participants. This training, whereby expression of interest was very high, is a key element and will assist in delivering on the campaign aims of getting more people walking more.
